Motivational Message:
"MCM Results:  We Are The Champions!"

I’ve paid my dues, time after time

I’ve done my sentence, but committed no crime

And bad mistakes, I’ve made a few

I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face

But I’ve come through!

(And we mean to go on and on and on and on…)

We are the champions – my friend

And we’ll keep on fighting ‘til the end
We are the champions

We are the champions!

No time for losers

because we are the champions

Of the world!!!

With the build up to race day, I am happy to report that the experience did not disappoint.  Today’s 40th Marine Corps Marathon will be remembered for its grit and love of country that I’ll dare to call uniquely American.  People of all backgrounds and cultures were present.  Nothing divided us.  All were filled with a great sense of joy, goodwill, and appreciation of freedom.  Over 30,000 racers with thousands more cheering made the experience unforgettable.

No one accomplishes anything worthwhile alone.  Your notes of encouragement helped me stay focused during the months of training.  Donations nearly doubled what I expected, making this all seem so incredibly rewarding.  And, with the help of my West Point classmate Mark Taylor, I was able to sustain a steady, “Clydesdale Trot” all the way to the finish line. Finally, we closed the race with push-ups in front of the Iwo Jima Monument to remember all those who have served and passed.

My “mission” with Freedom’s Light is now over.  So, what’s next?  What’s the plan for expanding the ability to bring more good into the world?   Neither one of us has time to read about that today.  At the bottom of this note are three of my favorite “Epic Hero Movie Endings” which leave clues.  All that I have left to do now is to provide you my “Hero’s Journey” conclusion.

Freedom’s Light – My “Hero’s Journey” Conclusion:

A lot has been written over the past 8 years.  What does it all mean?  What are my final conclusions?

I believe that nearly all of us are meant to be heroes.  The journey may come in various forms and perhaps at different stages of our lives.   Nevertheless, the opportunity to grow into the hero that your world desperately needs is generally there, waiting to be seized.

You know you are on a hero’s journey when you are reliant on your conscience for guidance.  This act of humility and acceptance of grace is how oneness with God is achieved.  After spending substantial time in the moment with God, the implications of eternal life begin to sink in.  You can see how little this world has to offer in comparison to the joy of fulfilling your purpose.  Distractions become minimal.  You also realize how salvation is a gift already given, and there are no set of “man-made rules” that can take it away.  The only way to lose it is to reject it!

So then, what is “Judgment Day” really about?   The revelation has been shocking to me.  Judgment Day is not simply about accounting for what we did while we were here.  It’s also about whom we bring with us to see the face of God.  If you are holding back your light that can help others see, if you are waiting for permission to be exceptional, then you are wasting your gift.  Open yourself up to think bigger and go!  The world needs heroes.

Thank you for reading.  Thank you for donating and sending all of the emails of support over the years.  And most of all, thank you for having the courage to live your purpose, bring hope where it is absent, and becoming an eternal force for good.

God Bless,
