DESTINATION TOUGHMAN: Mission Complete

“You tell everyone or anyone that has ever doubted, thought they did not measure up, or wanted to quit. You tell them:

Look up! Get up! And don’t ever give up!

Thank you! And may God bless you…

First, I want to congratulate Elizabeth and Lauren for a fantastic race. It’s amazing to see how much you both have grown in the 3 years doing this. Once again, you’ve shown that you are “TOUGHKIDS” and no one can ever take that away from you! It’s truly inspiring to watch.

When writing a similar letter last year, I remember being very disappointed about the outcome. However, examining the “Riddle of Steel” this season has produced different results. Now I can say through my reflection below, “Girls, this is how you do it…”

The Riddle of Steel Revisited – What I Learned This Year

Steel is nothing. Like anything else around us, it can be broken. What about flesh? Some believe that “mastering” your own body or even the actions of others through influence is where real power resides. That may be true, but only for a little while. Like steel, the body and mind ultimately fail as well. So then, what is my answer to the “Riddle of Steel?” I have one word: Spirit.

Steel is just a thing. The body and the world around us have constraints. But spirit has no boundaries. It is both eternal and enduring. And when you’re seemingly out of options, it’s our spirit that finds a way to pull us through whether in this life or transitioning into the next. It allows ordinary people like us to do extraordinary things. Why? It’s because the kind of spirit I am writing about is powered by a love of something greater than ourselves.

Spirit is the only thing you can trust. Allow it to speak to you, to encourage you, and to help you become better each day.   Most of all, let its presence bring out the hero from within and be a force of good for those who are in need. Without spirit, you are never truly alive. With spirit, your life becomes truly eternal.

Thank you for all of the wonderful support and donations to our charities this year. Good luck with continuing your Hero’s Journey.

Until next year…

God Bless,

--Pat
